Funnet er et resultat av rekognoseringsarbeid utf\u00f8rt mellom 2023 og 2024 av arkeologer <strong>Sonny Mois\u00e9s Ojeda Gonz\u00e1lez<\/strong> Og <strong>Diana Karina Blancas Olvera <\/strong>som en del av beskyttelsesaktivitetene knyttet til Tren Maya-infrastrukturprosjektet.<\/p>\n<p>Siden var <strong>allerede kjent for innbyggerne i regionen<\/strong>som hadde rapportert det til myndighetene under arkeologisk rekognoseringsarbeid, koordinert av arkeologen <strong>Manuel P\u00e9rez Rivas<\/strong>. Navnet <em>El Jeffeci\u00f1o<\/em> ble tilskrevet <strong>ironisk nok<\/strong> nettopp med henvisning til kompleksitetens monumentalitet, gitt at det er et enormt sted. Forel\u00f8pige data indikerer en utvidelse av <strong>minst 100 hektar, med 80 gjenkjennelige bygninger<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>Omr\u00e5det kan \u00e5penbare seg <strong>enda bredere<\/strong>: du trenger en<strong>systematisk utforskning<\/strong> av omr\u00e5det for \u00e5 n\u00f8yaktig bestemme dets grenser, dimensjonene til strukturene og bosettingsmodellen. De arkitektoniske trekk ved stedet, som bygninger med skj\u00e6rehvelv, avrundede og innfelte hj\u00f8rner og forpartslister, refererer til <strong>Peten stil<\/strong>typisk for <strong>Tidlig og sen klassisk periode (250\u2013900 e.Kr.)<\/strong> av Maya-sivilisasjonen.<\/p>\n<div class=\"cp_wrapper cp_wrapper--fw mb-50\">\n<figure class=\"mm\"><picture class=\"img\" style=\"padding-top:133.375%\"><source  media=\"(min-width: 1024px)\"><source  media=\"(min-width: 768px)\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/nordnesrepublikken.no\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/04\/1777534379_789_El-Jefecino-hadde-80-bygninger-i-Quintana-Roo.jpg\" alt=\"Bilde\" width=\"800\" height=\"1067\"\/><\/source><\/source><\/picture><\/figure>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<p>Det sentrale omr\u00e5det av nettstedet best\u00e5r av <strong>fem bygninger <\/strong>mellom 11 og 14 meter h\u00f8y og mellom 16 og 40 meter lang, arrangert rundt en <strong>&laquo;C&raquo; formet firkant<\/strong>. I en av bygningene, identifisert som <strong>monument 53035<\/strong>ble det identifisert rester av gips med dekorativt veggmaleri med hvite, oransje pigmenter og r\u00f8de b\u00e5nd, og fragmenter av menneskebein som kan v\u00e6re relevante i en begravelsessammenheng.<\/p>\n<div class=\"cp_wrapper cp_wrapper--fw mb-50\">\n<figure class=\"mm\"><picture class=\"img\" style=\"padding-top:133.375%\"><source  media=\"(min-width: 1024px)\"><source  media=\"(min-width: 768px)\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/nordnesrepublikken.no\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/04\/1777534379_743_El-Jefecino-hadde-80-bygninger-i-Quintana-Roo.jpg\" alt=\"Bilde\" width=\"800\" height=\"1067\" class=\"js-seedtag-img\"\/><\/source><\/source><\/picture><\/figure>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<p>Siden arbeidet som ble utf\u00f8rt var en rekognosering og ikke en utgraving, <strong>materialene ble igjen<em> p\u00e5 stedet<\/em><\/strong>  og det var ikke mulig \u00e5 analysere dem i detalj. For de p\u00e5f\u00f8lgende fasene forventes en <strong>kartleggingskampanje med LIDAR-teknologi<\/strong>som vil gj\u00f8re det mulig \u00e5 definere bosettingsmodellen n\u00f8yaktig. Arbeid vil f\u00f8lge for bevaring, konsolidering og utforskning av omr\u00e5det.
