Forskere fra Tsinghua University, i samarbeid medHarvard China Project on Energy, Economy and Environment<\/em>har demonstrert den tekniske gjennomf\u00f8rbarheten av \u00e5 konvertere fast avfall<\/strong> urbane<\/strong> (MSW), tradisjonelt bestemt for deponi eller forbrenning, i B\u00e6rekraftig<\/strong> Flydrivstoff<\/strong> (SAF), en biodrivstoff<\/strong> sertifisert for kommersiell luftfart. Denne tiln\u00e6rmingen vil drastisk redusere klimap\u00e5virkningen fra luftfartssektoren, akselerere oppn\u00e5elsen av netto nullutslippsm\u00e5let, og samtidig st\u00f8tte byer i \u00e5 h\u00e5ndtere de \u00f8kende volumene av MSW.<\/p>\n

Kommersiell luftfart bidrar ca 2,5 %<\/strong> til globale menneskeskapte utslipp av karbondioksid (CO2<\/sub>), med ettersp\u00f8rsel etter passasjerflyvninger forventet i dobling<\/strong> innen 2040. I motsetning til andre sektorer i progressiv overgang mot elektrifisering, presenterer luftfart vedvarende utfordringer<\/strong> for \u00e5 oppn\u00e5 karbonn\u00f8ytralitet: lange ruter, kompleks infrastruktur og varmemotorer med h\u00f8y energitetthet forhindrer betydelige reduksjoner i klimagasser (GHG<\/strong>), ansvarlig for global oppvarming. I et slikt scenario vil SAF<\/strong> er konfigurert som en prim\u00e6r spak for avkarbonisering<\/strong> i industriell skala.<\/p>\n

Hva er SAF og hvordan produseres det<\/h2>\n

I den innledende fasen av prosessen blir blandet kommunalt fast avfall, hovedsakelig best\u00e5ende av organisk avfall, papir, papp og plast, utsatt for differensiert kvalitativ sortering. Deretter gjennomg\u00e5r den valgte flyten en termokjemisk gassifisering<\/strong> ved h\u00f8y temperatur, produserer syngass<\/strong>en gassblanding rik p\u00e5 hydrogen (H2<\/sub>) og karbonmonoksid (CO). Syngassen renses f\u00f8rst fra forurensninger, tj\u00e6re og urenheter gjennom integrerte rense- og finfiltreringsprosesser, og f\u00f8res deretter inn i en reaktor Fischer-Tropsch<\/strong>hvor den katalytiske syntesen av langkjedede line\u00e6re hydrokarboner (paraffiner) finner sted. Til slutt gjennomg\u00e5r de oppn\u00e5dde r\u00e5v\u00e6skene en «oppgradering», gjennom hydroisomerisering og selektiv krakking, for \u00e5 produsere en br\u00f8kdel av<\/strong> parafin<\/strong> samsvarer med bransjespesifikasjoner for sertifisert flydrivstoff. De SAF<\/strong> \u2013 Sustainable Aviation Fuel \u2013 resultatet er en biodrivstoff<\/strong> fullt kompatibel<\/strong> med turbofan- og turbodropmotorer for kommersiell luftfart, reduserer klimagassutslippene80\u201390 %<\/strong> p\u00e5 hele livssyklusen sammenlignet med konvensjonelt jetdrivstoff og krever ikke tilpasninger til eksisterende infrastruktur for tanking p\u00e5 flyplasser.<\/p>\n

Potensialet til Sustainable Aviation Fuel<\/h2>\n

Selv om B\u00e6rekraftig flydrivstoff<\/strong> representerer for tiden mindre enn1 %<\/strong> av det globale forbruket av jetdrivstoff, begrenset av h\u00f8ye produksjonskostnader (3-5 ganger h\u00f8yere enn fossilt brensel) og begrenset tilgjengelig industriell kapasitet, er skaleringspotensialet betydelig, st\u00f8ttet av karboniseringspolitikk og teknologiske fremskritt. I et fremtidig perspektiv vil kommunalt fast avfall kunne genereres omtrent globalt 50 millioner tonn<\/strong> av SAF, tilsvarende 62 milliarder liter<\/strong> nikke<\/strong>. Dette volumet vil redusere CO-utslippene2<\/sub> globale kommersielle luftfarts livssyklusekvivalenter p\u00e5 ca 16 %<\/strong>. Ved \u00e5 integrere gr\u00f8nt hydrogen, produsert via elektrolyse drevet av fornybare kilder, i Fischer-Tropsch-fasen og optimalisere energieffektiviteten til anleggene, kan SAFs produksjonskapasitet n\u00e5 80 millioner tonn<\/strong> \u00e5rlig, som dekker 28 %<\/strong> av verdens flydrivstoffbehov og unng\u00e5 opptil 270 millioner tonn<\/strong> av karbondioksidekvivalenter over livssyklusen.<\/p>\n

Denne avkastningen vil garantere overholdelse av forpliktelsene til ReFuelEU Aviation<\/strong>EU-forordning 2023\/2405 som p\u00e5legger leverand\u00f8rer av flydrivstoff \u00e5 forsyne EU-flyplasser med blandinger<\/strong> som inneholder minst 3 %<\/strong> av SAF fra 2026<\/strong>med en gradvis skala opp til 70 %<\/strong> ved 2050<\/strong>.
